چکیده

This study was conducted on one hundred and eight patients to determine the stone clearance rate with respect to NCCT –HU density of the stone. Various statistical measures were applied for assessing the predictability about the success of ESWL therapy for that stone’s HUD. As per the final analysis of the study we can conclude that Hounsfield Unit Density bears significant relationship for predicting the success of ESWL therapy.

Factors affecting urinary calculi treatment by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is still the treatment of choice for most renal and upper ureteric stones; however the outcome depends on multiple factors. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of stone density, as measured by Hounsfield Units (H.U) by non-contrast Computerized Tomography (CT), stone size and stone location on ESWL treatment outcome of urinary ...

Evaluating the importance of different computed tomography scan-based factors in predicting the outcome of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for renal stones

Purpose To evaluate the impact of various computed tomography scan-based parameters of renal stones on the outcome of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Materials and Methods We conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent ESWL for renal stones (sized 5-20 mm) from January 2013 to December 2016. We evaluated body mass index, location of the stone, skin-to-stone distanc...

The success of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy based on the stone-attenuation value from non-contrast computed tomography

OBJECTIVE To determine the utility of the urinary stone-attenuation value (SAV, in Hounsfield units, HU) from non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) for predicting the success of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL). PATIENTS AND METHODS The study included 305 patients with renal calculi of ⩽30 mm and upper ureteric calculi of ⩽20 mm. The SAV was measured using NCCT. Numerical variab...

Non-Contrast Computed Tomography Scan Based Parameters of Ureteric Stones Affecting the Outcome of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

OBJECTIVE  To compare the non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) scan-based parameters of ureteric stones affecting the outcome of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively evaluated the pre-procedure NCCT of 74 patients who had ESWL for solitary ureteric calculi of 5-20 mm in diameter. We assessed the age, sex, basal metabolic index (BMI), latera...

Predicting stone composition before treatment – can it really drive clinical decisions?

INTRODUCTION Determination of stone composition is considered to be crucial for the choice of an optimal treatment algorithm. It is especially important for uric acid stones, which can be dissolved by oral chemolysis and for renal stones smaller than 2 cm, which can be treated with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). MATERIAL AND METHODS This short review identifies the latest papers...
